Students received a map of Europe today and worked on completing that and the map of Japanese expansion that we began on Wednesday. I led the class in a brief discussion of fascism, the rise of fascist dictators in Europe and Japan, and the three Neutrality Acts of 1935, '36 & '37 which strengthened popular opinion in this country against fighting another overseas war. Students took a 20 point quiz over 13.1 and our discussion of Japan on Wednesday. Remember, we will have more pop quizzes this semester, so be prepared. The highest score was 20/20, with quite a few scores in the 16-19 range.

Today we started our study of WWII, Chapters 13 & 14. Students took notes as we reviewed some basic facts about WWII.. Students then worked on completing a map exercise of the spread of Japanese power throughout Asia and the Pacific in the years leading up to WWII. I supplemented that with a brief lecture on the same topic. At the end of class I explained the WWII Obit assignment.
The other day a student asked "what was Woodstock?" So we watched a brief documentary about the 1969 music festival at the beginning of class. Students then worked on writing practice essays in preparation for the 1st semester test next week.
Students wrote essays based on eight questions about presidents, their policies and their actions. See the complete list on the Home page.
After watching the CNN Student News, we researched items, then quizzed each other today.
After watching the CNN Student News, we began reviewing for the 1st Semester Test. Students each received an index card with the name of a person we have learned from Chapters 15-22. Each student wrote facts and descriptions of accomplishments of their person. We then lined up in two rows outside the classroom for speed reviewing. Students quizzed each other in pairs. One row then shifted so students quizzed a different partner.
