We studied how the returning GIs changed postwar America: new families, the Baby Boom, increased need for education, housing, automobiles and jobs. The GI Bill allowed them to have access to funding. We talked about the rise of consumer culture (watching a few commercials in the process), how the Interstate Highway System came to be, and changed small town life across the country, and the growth of suburbia. On Wednesday, we will learn how the construction of I10 led to the construction of Redlands Adventist Academy.
